Operations Accountant

About the role

Penda Health, a healthcare company with 20 medical centres across Nairobi, Kiambu and Kajiado, is hiring an Operations Accountant in Westlands. The role manages financial data within the medical centres, ensuring accurate records, reconciliations, reporting and compliance with financial policies and controls. It reports to the Lead Operations Accountant, who gives technical guidance, coordinates workload, coaches and manages performance.

Key responsibilities

• Revenue reconciliations: upload insurance and cash revenue data, reconcile M-Pesa, debit card and cash collections daily, review drafts and voids, and prepare monthly revenue analysis and variance reports.
• Petty cash: manage claims and payments, post transactions, run weekly reconciliations and escalate variances or suspected fraud.
• Financial controls: support internal controls, perform inventory spot checks, review locum invoices for accuracy and eTIMS compliance, and support internal and external audits.
• Reporting: reconcile inventory and fixed assets, confirm branch operating expenses and inventory journals, review branch P&L monthly, complete month-end close and share branch performance reports.
• Act as the link between branch and head office and work with Branch Managers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• ACCA/CPA 11 with more than three years' accounting experience, preferably in a branch or similar role; hospital background is an added advantage.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, cost management, revenue reconciliation and petty cash management.
• Strong understanding of P&L reporting, financial regulations and internal controls.

Required skills

• Accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, SAP or similar ERP systems.
