About the role
Mount Kenya University is seeking a part‑time Coxswain Trainer to support its maritime training programmes. The role involves guiding trainees on training vessels, ensuring safety, and maintaining equipment while delivering practical instruction.
Key responsibilities
- Assist lead trainers by navigating training vessels and supervising crew safety.
- Identify and resolve technical faults on boats and auxiliary equipment.
- Execute drills as directed and conduct general vessel maintenance.
- Ensure all firefighting, lifesaving appliances and personal protective clothing are serviced and ready.
- Maintain accurate records of training activities and equipment checks.
Required profile
- Minimum 2‑3 years of sea service.
- Prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
