Part-Time Trainer in ECDIS

About the role

The University is seeking a part‑time trainer to deliver both theoretical and practical instruction on Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), ARPA and RADAR equipment. The role involves preparing students for IMO STCW certification and ensuring they can integrate electronic navigation tools into bridge operations. Candidates will work on campus and in the university’s navigation simulator facility.

Key responsibilities

• Teach classroom and hands‑on sessions covering ECDIS, ARPA and RADAR principles and operation.
• Conduct simulator‑based training and real‑time scenario exercises.
• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials and assessments aligned with IMO STCW Model Courses.
• Guide students through certification requirements and evaluate their performance.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress and assessment results.
• Collaborate with other trainers to maintain and upgrade simulator equipment.
• Participate in faculty meetings, workshops and professional development activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Nautical Science, Marine Navigation or a related field.
• Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (STCW II/1) or higher.
• Valid ECDIS certification and experience with ARPA and RADAR systems.
• Minimum 2‑3 years of sea service and prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution.
