Policy Systems Analyst

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme is seeking a Policy Systems Analyst to join its Environment Management Group Secretariat in Nairobi. The role will support the development and deployment of digital tools, data analytics, and AI‑driven solutions to enhance policy analysis and operational efficiency across the UN system.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and improve digital tools, templates, tracking systems and surveys for policy work.
• Collect, evaluate, analyse and disseminate quantitative and qualitative information.
• Create interactive visualisations, presentations and concise analytical reports to aid decision‑making.
• Conduct structured data and policy analysis, contributing to briefs, agendas and meeting notes.
• Manage data repositories, records and information‑management systems, ensuring data integrity.
• Support website, social media and newsletter content development.
• Train colleagues on data collection, AI tools and related analytical methods.
• Monitor technological developments within the UN and wider industry and recommend relevant tools.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of professional experience in environmental policy analysis, data management or related fields.
• Experience creating content, reports and analytical visualisations.
• Proven ability to work in multicultural teams; UN or UNEP experience is an advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, IT, Statistics, Computer Science or a related discipline; advanced degree is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with at least four of the following: Drupal, Python, JavaScript, MySQL, Power Apps, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, SharePoint Online.
• Data visualization and dashboard development.
• Use of AI for note‑taking, synthesis and reporting.
• Digital meeting preparation and records management.
