Postdoctoral Fellow – Macroeconomics

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to lead macro‑economic research on natural resource management and forest governance. The role is based in Nairobi and involves collaborative work across regions and continents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists and students.
• Represent ICRF in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders and pursue additional research funding.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including budgeting and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics, natural resource management, social sciences).
• Proven experience in collaborative natural‑resource or social‑science research.
• Track record of successful budget management and donor‑funded project delivery.
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Experience in resource mobilization, proposal development, and fundraising.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to work with multiple partners and multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.
