Principal Software Engineer

About the role

Cross Border Talents is seeking a Principal Java Engineer to join a fast‑growing non‑profit social enterprise. You will be based at the client’s location in Portugal and work with an international team to build digital platforms that encourage positive health choices.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain the core software that powers the system.
• Advise on implementation and delivery, ensuring technical principles and standards are followed across teams.
• Influence software engineering practices across design, development, testing and evaluation.
• Collaborate closely with architects and engineering teams to develop new platform features.
• Mentor and coach engineers on complex problems.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of experience in software development.
• Strong background with Java and SpringBoot.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Logical thinker and natural problem‑solver who values quality and scalability.
