Program Coordinator – African Policy Impact Lab

About the role

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is establishing the African Policy Impact Lab (APiL) within its Policy Engagement and Communications Programme. The APiL Program Coordinator will lead the set‑up and operationalisation of this new unit, shaping its short‑term strategy, resourcing and management to strengthen evidence use by governments across sub‑Saharan Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Head of PEC to define and communicate a strategic vision for APiL aligned with APHRC’s overall mission.
• Develop, review and monitor the APiL strategy, business plan, operational plan and budget.
• Design institutional structures, processes and team composition to ensure effective delivery.
• Lead business development activities, identify strategic opportunities and prepare competitive bids.
• Oversee a portfolio of high‑impact policy advisory projects, ensuring timely delivery and measurable results.
• Collaborate with internal programme teams and external stakeholders to fast‑track uptake of policy and program innovations.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience in programme or project coordination within NGOs, research institutions or policy‑focused environments.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
