Project Director – Child Protection & EdTech

About the role

The Project Director will lead a two-year U.S. Government-funded initiative in Kenya aimed at protecting vulnerable children, expanding high-quality EdTech, strengthening digital safety, and preventing child labour and online exploitation. Reporting to the Country Director, the role combines strategic oversight with day-to-day operational management, requiring close collaboration with government agencies, private-sector partners, civil-society organisations and the donor.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for the project, ensuring alignment with donor objectives and ChildFund’s mission.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team, including recruitment, supervision, performance management and capacity building.
• Oversee project implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting, guaranteeing high-quality results and compliance with budgetary and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with government counterparts, private-sector entities, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Lead financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, expenditure tracking and audit preparation.
• Ensure safeguarding and child protection standards are fully integrated throughout the project.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, international development, public policy or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, preferably in child protection, education technology or digital safety.
• Demonstrated experience managing large, donor-funded programmes in low‑resource settings.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan government systems, child labour legislation and online safety frameworks.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-engagement skills.
