Protection Assistant for Refugee Women

About the role

The Protection Assistant ensures young refugee women in the Angaza programme receive safe, timely protection services, enabling their participation in training, apprenticeships and business activities without risk of gender‑based violence, exploitation or documentation barriers.

Key responsibilities

• Screen participants for protection risks and refer women with GBV, exploitation, safety threats or missing documents to specialist services.
• Maintain confidential case records, follow up on referrals, and keep an up‑to‑date directory of protection service providers.
• Support safe‑space set‑up, peer groups and coordination with psychosocial counsellors.
• Conduct awareness sessions on rights, GBV prevention, labour rights and safe reporting mechanisms.
• Monitor training venues, apprenticeship placements and workplaces for safety, reporting any risks.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Social Work, Community Development, Sociology, Gender Studies, Law or related field.
• Minimum 2 years experience in protection, GBV or case management, preferably with refugees, women or youth.
• Knowledge of survivor‑centred approaches, GBV case management, refugee rights and documentation in Kenya.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.

Required skills

• Good record‑keeping and basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).
• Understanding of safeguarding, PSEA and data protection regulations in Kenya.
