Public Works Coordinator

About the role

The Town of Colchester is seeking a Public Works Coordinator to support the Department of Public Works under the direction of the Public Works Director. This full‑time position provides both administrative and technical assistance to internal staff, elected officials and the public, handling finance‑related tasks, outreach, data management and general office operations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver written and oral customer service to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Perform office management duties, including record keeping, scheduling and document preparation.
• Assist with business and financial functions such as budgeting support and expense tracking.
• Coordinate education, outreach and public information activities for the department.
• Maintain data systems and generate reports related to public works projects.
• Support the Town Manager’s office on matters that intersect with public works operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with coursework in communications, customer service or a related field, or 3‑5 years of professional customer‑service experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
• Experience in office administration; municipal or public‑works experience is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email).

• Competitive hourly wage of $24‑$26, dependent on experience.
• Full‑time schedule, Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
