Pyrolysis Operator (Fixed-Term)

About the role

One Acre Fund is seeking a dedicated Pyrolysis Operator to manage a specific stage of its bio‑char production line under the Tupande brand in Kenya. This fixed‑term position involves operating, monitoring, and maintaining equipment that converts agricultural feedstock into high‑quality biochar.

Key responsibilities

• Load feedstock into the feeding system at the correct rate and monitor drying to achieve target moisture levels.
• Control pyrolysis temperatures, airflow, and combustion conditions to ensure stable carbonization.
• Discharge and cool biochar, maintaining consistent product flow to storage or packaging.
• Record process data, report equipment faults, and follow HACCP safety protocols.
• Assist the Maintenance Officer during equipment stoppages, cleaning, and start‑up/shut‑down procedures.

Required profile

• Ability to work safely in an industrial environment and follow strict hazard‑analysis protocols.
• Attention to detail for accurate data logging and equipment checks.
• Willingness to work on a shift schedule and respond promptly to process deviations.
