Regional Head of Operational Support

About the role

The Regional Head of Operational Support will lead an integrated approach to operational management across the East and Southern Africa region, ensuring quality, timeliness and compliance of NRC’s humanitarian response.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure support functions within the regional team operate efficiently and foster a collaborative working environment.
• Hold country offices accountable for operational progress using reports, analyses and compliance data.
• Provide capacity‑building, advice and mentorship to country directors, heads of support and HAS managers.
• Participate in global discussions on planning and strategy for support functions.
• Review finance, HR and logistics requirements for regional grants in collaboration with Global PCM and Grants Management.
• Streamline hosting arrangements for global pool members located in Nairobi and maintain a conducive working environment.
• Act on behalf of the Regional Director when required, including leading Crisis Management Teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of leadership/management experience in the humanitarian sector.
• Higher education in business administration, management, finance or a related field.
• Proven experience managing finance, HR and logistics support functions; security and safety experience is an added value.
• Experience working in complex, volatile contexts and with organisational change processes.
• Fluency in English (written and verbal); knowledge of the East and Southern Africa context is an asset.
• Demonstrated behavioural competencies such as integrity, collaboration, results orientation and empowerment.
