Resettlement Officer

About the role

HIAS Kenya is seeking a Resettlement Officer to support durable solutions for the most vulnerable refugee populations. The officer will lead resettlement interviews, assess eligibility, and represent clients throughout the legal process.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct resettlement interviews, evaluate claims, and apply international legal frameworks in line with HIAS SOPs.
• Prepare and draft Resettlement Referral Forms for specialist review and ensure submission of at least 30 cases per month to relevant embassies.
• Represent HIAS resettlement clients in Kenyan courts, providing legal information and guidance.
• Provide individual counseling to clients via face‑to‑face, telephone or email, and keep them updated on application status.
• Participate in case‑conferencing meetings, maintain case records in the Case Management System, and produce accurate resettlement statistics.
• Support internal and external reporting to HIAS country office, headquarters and donors.
• Assist in training initiatives, develop IEC materials and conduct related research.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law and admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
• Minimum three years of professional experience in refugee protection, resettlement or related NGO programming.
• Strong knowledge of international refugee law and human‑rights principles.
