About the role
The Safeguarding Specialist supports and implements safeguarding policies across MSF Eastern Africa’s programmes, ensuring protection of patients, staff and community members from abuse, exploitation and harassment. Reporting to the Head of EDI & Safeguarding, the role combines investigative work, capacity building and policy development.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and support administrative workplace investigations at headquarters and field sites.
- Conduct safeguarding audits, self‑assessments and field visits to review and improve policies.
- Design and deliver trainings, workshops and risk‑assessment tools for staff and partners.
- Monitor and follow up on safeguarding concerns, documenting lessons learned and preventive measures.
- Contribute to the unit’s annual plan, regional networking and data‑protection compliance.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in behavioural, social, human‑rights or related field; safeguarding certification is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years experience in safeguarding, protection or GBV, including leading workplace investigations in the humanitarian sector.
- Fluency in English and French; knowledge of Kiswahili or other languages is advantageous.
Required skills
- Conducting workplace administrative investigations.
- Performing safeguarding audits and risk assessments.
- Facilitating training sessions on safeguarding topics.
What we offer
- Annual salary of €27,145 (Grade 8) with 2 % yearly increments.
- Work‑life balance allowance of €620‑€1,159 per month for accommodation, transport, etc.
- 25 days of annual leave plus sick, maternity, paternity and other leave types.
- Employer pension contribution (10 % of basic salary), international medical and disability insurance, and relocation support.
