Safeguarding Specialist

About the role

MSF Eastern Africa seeks a Safeguarding Specialist to support and implement safeguarding policies across programming locations, ensuring protection for patients, staff and community members.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support administrative workplace investigations at headquarters and programming sites.
• Follow up safeguarding concerns, conduct risk assessments and provide training workshops.
• Develop and deliver safeguarding audits, self‑assessments and field visit reports.
• Produce surveys and lessons‑learned analyses to improve preventive measures.
• Support mainstreaming of safeguarding capacity through new tools and regional networking.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in behavioural, social, human rights, international development, law, education or related field; safeguarding certification is a plus.
• Minimum five years experience in safeguarding, protection or gender‑based violence within the humanitarian sector.
• Proven experience conducting workplace investigations and safeguarding trainings.
• Fluency in English and French; knowledge of Kiswahili or other languages is advantageous.
• Demonstrated understanding of African cultural contexts and data‑protection regulations.

Required skills

• Conducting workplace administrative investigations following due process.
• Designing and delivering safeguarding audits and risk‑assessment tools.
• Facilitating training workshops on safeguarding and protection topics.

What we offer

• Annual salary of €27,145 (HQ Grade 8) with 2 % yearly increments up to ten years.
• Work‑life balance allowance of €620–€1 159 per month for accommodation, transport, etc.
• 25 days of annual leave plus sick, maternity, paternity and other statutory leaves.
• Employer pension contribution of 10 % of basic salary and international insurance coverage.
