About the role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a dynamic Science Editor on a three‑month consultancy basis. Working remotely, you will support UNEP’s Communications Division by delivering high‑quality edited publications that advance environmental discourse.
Key responsibilities
- Provide science editing services for UNEP publications, including structural edits to ensure clarity and scientific accuracy.
- Copy‑edit reports and documents from various UNEP divisions and offices, such as the Executive Office and the Office of the Chief Scientist, covering topics like climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in journalism, communication, social sciences or a related field (or equivalent combination of degree and experience).
- Minimum seven years of experience in scientific editing, technical writing, proofreading, and publishing, with a proven track record of editing scientific and technical reports.
- Excellent command of technical English, scientific terminology, and editorial standards.
- Experience collaborating with authors and subject‑matter experts to ensure accuracy and consistency; prior work with UNEP, the UN system, or similar international organizations is desirable.
