Senior Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our finance team in Nairobi. The role focuses on tax compliance, month‑end closing, and supplier payment control within a fast‑growing logistics environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review tax returns (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax) and respond to queries from tax authorities.
• Review supplier vouchers, ensure proper coding, allocation and supporting documentation (LPOs, delivery notes).
• Control supplier payments, reconcile supplier balances, and monitor long‑outstanding invoices.
• Execute monthly standing charge reviews, match prepaid and accrued expenses, and propose adjustments.
• Lead end‑month closing activities, verify general ledger entries, and compile management reporting packages.
• Settle inter‑company balances, reconcile accounts before payment, and ensure no long‑standing items.
• Provide backup support to the Financial Controller and guide junior accounting staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or a related business discipline.
• CPA(K) qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar accounting role, with at least 3 years in freight forwarding or logistics.
• Strong understanding of Kenyan tax regulations and ability to stay updated on changes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with IRIS accounting software.
• Tax compliance expertise covering VAT, PAYE and Withholding Tax.
• Month‑end closing and financial reporting.
• Supplier payment processing and reconciliation.
