Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will manage the finances of Durham International School and its related entities, ensuring accurate records, tax compliance, and reliable reporting to support strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes, prepare management accounts and consolidated financial statements.
• Oversee cash, POS, and stock controls; coordinate external audits.
• Administer payroll and student fee billing, including bank and M‑Pesa reconciliations.
• File corporation tax, VAT, PAYE and withholding tax; ensure eTIMS compliance and manage KRA audits.
• Advise on group structuring, support new subsidiaries, and draft agreements.
• Develop budgets, forecasts, cash‑flow projections and enrolment‑driven fee models; evaluate new ventures using NPV, IRR and payback analysis.
• Maintain internal controls, supervise accounting staff and strengthen financial governance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Economics.
• CPA(K), ACCA or CA qualification; member of ICPAK in good standing.
• Minimum 6 years accounting experience, including 3 years in a senior role.
• Proven expertise in Kenyan tax compliance, consolidations and payroll.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IFRS and Kenyan tax law.
• Proficiency with iTax, eTIMS, ERP administration and POS systems.
• Advanced Excel skills.
