Senior Coordination Officer

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Senior Coordination Officer to lead the administration of the Nairobi Convention Secretariat in Nairobi. Reporting to the Chief of the Regional Seas Branch, the incumbent will oversee programme development, implementation and stakeholder liaison for the Convention.

Key responsibilities

• Lead supervision of the Nairobi Convention Secretariat, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes and projects.
• Direct sub‑teams in programme/project development, monitoring, assessment and reporting.
• Prepare and convene meetings of Contracting Parties and related conferences.
• Transmit notifications, reports and information to Contracting Parties in line with Convention provisions.
• Coordinate implementation of cooperative activities agreed by Contracting Parties.
• Manage overall administrative arrangements to ensure effective secretariat functions.
• Liaise with Parties, governments, donors, international organisations and other stakeholders.
• Support UNEP Regional Seas Programme actions and UNEA‑derived initiatives.
• Facilitate development and implementation of fundraising strategies.
