Senior Import/Export Operations Specialist

About the role

Join DHL Global Forwarding, the air, ocean and road freight specialist of DHL Group, as a Senior Import/Export Operations Specialist in Mombasa. You will coordinate, control, plan and manage all aspects of import, export and cross‑trade procedures in ocean freight, acting as a vital link in the supply chain.

Key responsibilities

• Receive shipment transmissions and alerts, verify shipment and freight details in CargoSphere (CWI) and open files.
• Prepare, control and distribute all required import or export documents to carriers, consignees and shippers in compliance with regulations.
• Arrange collections for imports and coordinate with shippers for exports, ensuring timely booking confirmations.
• Perform quality checks on draft Bills of Lading, share with customers for approval, and create transport orders for final delivery.
• Request commercial invoices, packing lists and other documents needed for customs clearance.
• Monitor ETA details, resolve discrepancies before departure or arrival, and send status/tracking reports to all parties.
• Invoice shipments based on estimates or rate agreements and process billing to local customers or origin stations.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of local and destination import/export regulations and cross‑trade procedures.
• Proven experience in ocean freight operations, documentation and customs clearance.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills to liaise with carriers, customers and internal teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CargoSphere (CWI) or similar freight management systems.
