Senior Payroll Accountant

About the role

The Senior Payroll Accountant is responsible for the accurate, timely and fully compliant delivery of payroll across all of Tatu City's Kenyan legal entities. The role combines operational payroll processing on Sage 300 People with control functions, statutory compliance and preparation for a 2027 Tier‑1 ERP migration.

Key responsibilities

• Run end‑to‑end monthly payroll for all entities, including data collection, gross‑to‑net calculations, payslip issuance and bank file preparation.
• Maintain separate, auditable payroll set‑ups for each entity and manage inter‑entity cost allocations.
• Perform monthly variance analysis, obtain approvals and enforce robust maker‑checker controls.
• Calculate, file and remit PAYE, SHIF, Affordable Housing Levy, NSSF and other statutory contributions on time.
• Administer complex pay elements such as sales commissions, bonuses, allowances, staff loans and expatriate benefits.
• Manage expatriate payroll, tax residency assessments, double‑taxation agreements and mobility‑related statutory requirements.
• Post payroll journals, reconcile control accounts and produce monthly payroll and staff‑cost reports.
• Lead the payroll workstream for the 2027 ERP migration, including requirements gathering, data cleansing and user acceptance testing.
• Serve as the primary payroll contact for employees, managers and auditors, ensuring confidentiality and timely issue resolution.
