Shelter House Matron/Patron

About the role

The Shelter House Matron/Patron ensures the safe, smooth and respectful operation of a residential shelter, providing a structured and supportive environment for vulnerable residents.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safe, smooth daily shelter operations and maintain a structured residential environment.
• Coordinate household routines including meals, cleaning, laundry and activities.
• Promote resident wellbeing, safety, dignity and support healthy daily routines.
• Welcome and orient new residents, enforce house rules and monitor wellbeing.
• Identify and report safeguarding concerns, protecting children and vulnerable residents.
• Apply trauma‑informed principles, respond calmly to distress and avoid punitive approaches.

Required profile

• Diploma or certificate in Social Work, Community Development, Counselling, Childcare, Health/Social Care, Hospitality Management or a related field.
• 3–5 years experience in residential care, shelter, children’s home or similar environment.
• Experience working with vulnerable individuals, survivors, children or women.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
• Good communication, interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
