Short‑Term Research Assistant – Field Interviewer in Kakamega

About the role

Population Services International (PSI) is seeking short‑term research assistants to conduct field interviews for a family‑planning study in Kakamega County, Kenya. The role involves gathering quantitative and qualitative data directly from community members and key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct face‑to‑face interviews using electronic data collection tools (ODK or SurveyCTO).
• Ensure accurate transcription and translation of responses in local dialects.
• Maintain data quality and confidentiality throughout the study.
• Engage with senior government officials, county health teams, and community representatives.
• Attend in‑person training sessions and adhere to study protocols.

Required profile

• College diploma or university degree.
• Fluency in English, Swahili, and one Kakamega dialect (Idakho, Isukha, or Tsotso).
• 1‑2 years of interview or moderation experience in health‑oriented research.
• Experience with sexual and reproductive health research is desirable.
• Current residence in Kakamega County preferred.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and pay close attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using ODK or SurveyCTO for electronic data collection.
• Strong communication skills with diverse participants.
