Sous Chef – Full-time On-site Role

About the role

Jikoni Studio is seeking a dedicated Sous Chef to join its culinary studio in Kenya. The role is full‑time and on‑site, supporting the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations and contributing to menu development for client events and catering projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in overseeing food preparation, cooking, plating and quality control.
• Supervise kitchen staff, coordinate shifts and ensure adherence to recipes, standards and food‑safety guidelines.
• Participate in menu development, test new dishes and adapt recipes to client needs and event concepts.
• Manage inventory, monitor stock levels and maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment.
• Train junior chefs and trainees in practical techniques and uphold kitchen sanitation best practices.

Required profile

• Strong culinary background with advanced cooking techniques, recipe execution and plating.
• Experience in kitchen management, staff supervision, workflow coordination and shift planning.
• Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards and kitchen sanitation.
• Proven ability to support menu development, recipe testing and adaptation for diverse cuisines and high‑volume service.
• Effective communication, collaboration and organizational skills, including inventory tracking and cost awareness.
• Ability to work on‑site in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing service demands.
• Previous experience in restaurant, hospitality or culinary studio settings is an advantage.
