Statistics Specialist – Flagship Reports (Fixed-Term)

About the role
UN Women’s Research and Data Section is seeking a Statistics Specialist to lead data analysis for its flagship publications, including the annual “Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The gender snapshot” and “Progress of the World’s Women”. The role will support the production of high‑quality gender statistics, contribute to data‑science capacity building and supervise consultants and interns.
Key responsibilities
- Collect, assess and integrate data sources for flagship reports and prepare statistical annexes, technical notes and definitions.
- Conduct statistical modelling, quantitative analysis and data visualisation to present findings for non‑technical audiences.
- Draft and co‑author data chapters, write background notes and coordinate contributions from external authors.
- Maintain partnerships with UN agencies and data‑collecting organisations, represent UN Women in inter‑agency working groups, and contribute to annual reporting.
- Provide statistical inputs for communication materials, present findings at report launches and prepare briefing documents for media and stakeholders.
Required profile
- Master’s degree with a strong quantitative focus in gender studies, economics, social sciences, international development or a related field.
- Proven experience in statistical analysis of large, gender‑disaggregated data sets and familiarity with gender‑equality policy contexts.
- Ability to organise research work, meet deadlines and supervise junior staff or consultants.

- Statistical software: R, Stata, Python.
- Data visualisation tools and techniques.
- Advanced statistical modelling and quantitative analysis.
- Large‑scale data‑set handling and data‑science/foresight methods.
- Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.
