Tax Associate – Consulting

About the role

KPMG is looking for an Associate in its Tax & Regulatory Services Unit in Nairobi, which acts as the regional coordinating office for East Africa. The role supports a variety of consulting engagements that help clients comply with their tax obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Help plan and run project activities such as client interviews, computations, analysis, data gathering and coordination of KPMG and client resources.
• Carry out tax research, tax planning and prepare supporting work papers for tax returns and tax-related projects.
• Advise clients, review tax information and respond to their questions and concerns.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records.
• Carry out risk management and KYC procedures for engagements.
• Draft opinion letters, responses to Revenue Authority inquiries and rulings requests, and other technical memoranda.
• Support Senior Associates and Managers with engagement administration and billing.
• Build and manage client relationships, and help organize trainings and departmental activities.
• Write articles and take part in brand-enhancement activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a business-related field from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of working experience.
• Experience in corporation tax, VAT, PAYE, withholding tax and tax procedures in an accounting/law firm or corporation is an added advantage.
• ACCA, CPA or another professional qualification in taxation is highly desirable.
• Good knowledge of tax laws, rules and regulations, and comfort interacting with C-level professionals.
