Tax Manager

About the role

Airtel Africa is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead direct and indirect tax compliance, reporting, audit management and tax strategy for its Kenyan entities and to coordinate tax activities across its African markets.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and submit all Kenyan statutory tax returns (CIT, VAT, WHT) and ensure compliance with KRA requirements.
• Provide tax advisory on business operations, intercompany arrangements, restructurings and commercial initiatives.
• Lead tax audits, investigations, objections, appeals and dispute resolution, acting as primary contact with KRA.
• Coordinate regional tax compliance across Airtel’s 14 African markets, ensuring timely filings and consistent governance.
• Manage transfer pricing policies, documentation and audits, ensuring alignment with local regulations and OECD principles.
• Maintain the Group Tax Risk Register, monitor exposures and update the consolidated tax cases dashboard monthly.
• Identify and implement process improvements, controls and technology solutions to enhance tax efficiency and accuracy.

Required profile

• Graduate degree with professional accounting/tax qualification (CPA(K), ACCA, ACA or equivalent).
• 8‑10 years of hands‑on tax experience in a Big Four firm or multinational corporation.
• Proven experience managing tax compliance, audits, transfer pricing and cross‑border tax matters.
