Technical Expert - Payments Authorization

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Expert in Payments Authorization to join a leading global payments network on a 12‑month onsite assignment in Nairobi. The role focuses on improving Card‑Not‑Present (CNP) approval rates for issuing clients across selected markets, driving end‑to‑end technical delivery and optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse CNP decline reasons at the customer level and identify actionable optimisation opportunities.
• Serve as the primary contact for authorization optimisation, coordinating between internal teams and client stakeholders.
• Manage onboarding requirements, log requests, track actions and provide regular status updates.
• Conduct structured review meetings with clients to monitor projects, incidents and technical tickets.
• Support issuers and acquirers with technical and operational guidance in the authorization space.
• Drive adoption of approval optimisation recommendations across assigned markets.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in payment gateways, acquiring, or technical project delivery.
• Strong understanding of card payment processing architecture and authorization flows.
• Proven track record of supporting issuers to improve customer experience and approval rates.
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast‑paced client environment.
