Translation Writer

About the role

Bill Freelancers is looking for a Translation Writer based in Nairobi to produce clear, accurate written content across languages for clients and projects. The role combines translation with writing and editing, so that each deliverable keeps the meaning, tone and intended audience of the source material.

Key responsibilities

• Translate and adapt written materials between relevant source and target languages, keeping accuracy, style and context.
• Write, proofread and edit translated content for grammar, readability, consistency and cultural suitability.
• Research terminology and subject matter, and maintain glossaries and reference materials for recurring projects.
• Follow project briefs, formatting requirements, deadlines and quality standards.
• Review feedback and revise deliverables, coordinating with project stakeholders to clarify requirements.
• Handle client and project information responsibly and meet agreed delivery schedules.

Required profile

• Strong written command of at least two languages, including accurate translation between a relevant pair.
• Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation and editing skills in the target language.
• Ability to preserve meaning, tone, terminology and audience intent.
• Research skills for verifying facts, context and specialised vocabulary.
• Attention to detail and consistency across long documents and repeat assignments.
• Ability to follow briefs, style guides, formatting instructions and deadlines.
• Clear communication, openness to editorial feedback and reliable independent work habits.

Required skills

• Familiarity with translation software, CAT tools or digital writing workflows is an advantage.
