Trial Attorney – Office of Foreign Litigation

About the role

The Office of Foreign Litigation seeks a Trial Attorney to support U.S. government agencies in civil and criminal matters abroad. The attorney will not appear in court but will coordinate closely with client agencies, foreign counsel, and U.S. embassies.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and assist in litigating civil or criminal cases overseas.
• Process individual judicial assistance requests and provide detailed legal instructions to foreign counsel.
• Develop and supervise litigation strategies that align with U.S. policy, Department of Justice guidance, and applicable international law.
• Provide legal advice to DOJ components, federal agencies, and U.S. embassies on foreign litigation and international law issues.
• Coordinate with the Department of State and other agencies regarding pending or potential foreign litigation.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national.
• J.D. degree and active bar membership in good standing.
• At least four years of post‑J.D. legal experience for GS‑15 level.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (as required).
• Compliance with selective service registration, background investigation, and drug‑free workplace policies.
