Virtual Assets Compliance Lead

About the role

The Virtual Assets Compliance Lead will shape Safaricom’s financial crime compliance strategy for virtual assets. Reporting to the Head of Financial Crime Compliance, the role bridges innovation and regulatory credibility, ensuring that AML/CFT controls are embedded from design through product launch.

Key responsibilities

• Embed AML/CFT controls at the design and build stage of all virtual‑assets products, features and third‑party integrations.
• Act as the trusted compliance advisor to product, technology and business teams throughout the Agile delivery lifecycle.
• Monitor and interpret evolving virtual‑assets regulations, translating them into actionable compliance programmes.
• Lead enhanced due‑diligence and risk‑assessment frameworks for virtual‑assets partnerships, service providers and customers.
• Represent Safaricom in regulatory forums, industry working groups and policy consultations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Law, Business, Statistics, IT or a related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in financial‑crime compliance with exposure to virtual‑assets/VASP regulatory frameworks.
• Professional certification in AML/CFT/CPF compliance (e.g., CAMS, CAMS Crypto, ICA) and preferably Chainalysis certifications.
• Proven track record advising product/technology teams in a compliance‑by‑design capacity.
