Volunteer Pharmaceutical Technologist

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Pharmaceutical Technologist to support its dispensing pharmacy units in Nairobi. This role ensures safe, accurate medication distribution and contributes to the overall health supply chain for vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee correct dispensing of pharmaceutical commodities and manage pharmacy inventory.
• Receive and report adverse drug reactions, poor‑quality medicines, and other health product concerns.
• Maintain adequate health supplies, prevent pilferage, and enforce standard operating procedures.
• Monitor prescribing trends, flag irrational prescribing, and support pharmacists.
• Ensure cold‑chain maintenance for temperature‑sensitive drugs.
• Prepare monthly inventory reports for MOH (Malaria, TB, HIV) and bi‑weekly tracer‑drug updates.
• Participate in departmental meetings, training, and mentorship programs.
• Carry out any additional assignments from supervisors.

Required profile

• Kenya Certificate of Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
• Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
• Enrollment with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
• At least one year of experience as a Pharmaceutical Technologist II.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and ethical work standards.
