WASH Assistant – Field Operations in Wajir

About the role

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering high‑quality water, sanitation and hygiene programmes across the Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River regions. The role focuses on emergency response, construction of WASH infrastructure, distribution of hygiene kits and integration of WASH with other core sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities such as boreholes, elevated tanks, reticulation systems and animal troughs.
• Coordinate site meetings with contractors and community representatives, ensuring feedback and safety compliance.
• Plan and lead hygiene promotion activities and distribution of WASH non‑food items (jerricans, buckets, soap, PUR, Aquatabs).
• Validate contractor progress and quality, liaise with logistics and administration for timely payments.
• Monitor construction quality against Save the Children checklists and report weekly on project indicators.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health or Sanitation.
• Minimum 2 years experience in WASH infrastructure construction in humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven project management experience within agreed timeframes and budgets.
• Strong commitment to community participation, child protection and gender‑sensitive approaches.
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to communicate in Kiswahili and Somali.
