WASH Assistant – Field Operations (Wajir)

About the role

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering high‑quality water, sanitation and hygiene programmes across the Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River regions. The role focuses on emergency response, construction of WASH infrastructure, hygiene promotion and integration with other core sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities such as animal troughs, tank platforms, borehole equipment and solarised water systems.
• Organise and lead project site meetings with contractors and community representatives to provide feedback and ensure participation.
• Plan, organise and monitor hygiene‑promotion activities and distribution of WASH non‑food items (jerricans, buckets, soap, PUR, Aquatabs).
• Maintain WASH documentation, capture success stories and support reporting to the WASH Officer.
• Validate contractor progress and quality against Save the Children checklists and coordinate payments with logistics and administration.
• Coordinate WASH construction with other sectors (nutrition, health, education, child protection) and ensure gender, child‑protection and environmental considerations are integrated.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health or Sanitation.
• Minimum 2 years experience in WASH infrastructure construction within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven project‑management experience delivering integrated health‑WASH projects on time and within budget.
• Strong knowledge of community participation, monitoring & evaluation and report writing.
• Excellent communication skills, culturally sensitive and able to work in insecure field conditions.
• Fluency in English and ability to communicate in Kiswahili or Somali.
