WASH Assistant – Wajir (Kenya)

About the role

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering quality water, sanitation and hygiene programmes in the Wajir region, including construction, hygiene promotion and integration with other core sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the WASH Officer in supervising construction or rehabilitation of WASH facilities such as boreholes, tanks and reticulation systems.
• Plan and lead hygiene promotion activities and coordinate distribution of WASH non‑food items (e.g., jerrycans, buckets, soap, water treatment chemicals).
• Maintain documentation, capture success stories and ensure regular reporting of project data.
• Validate contractor work quality, oversee safety of construction sites and facilitate timely payments.
• Integrate WASH construction with other sectors (nutrition, health, education, child protection) and ensure gender, child‑protection and disability considerations are embedded.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health or Sanitation.
• Minimum two years experience in WASH infrastructure construction within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven experience in project management, community participation and monitoring & evaluation.
• Strong written and spoken English; ability to communicate in Kiswahili and Somali is an advantage.
• Flexibility to work in insecure and remote environments and commitment to Save the Children’s child‑focused mandate.
