Access Network Engineer (xPON/FTTx)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Access Network Engineer to lead capacity planning, solution design, and performance optimisation for our xPON/FTTx broadband network. The role involves technical leadership across the full network lifecycle to ensure a resilient and scalable access infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement xPON/FTTx capacity plans and forecasts aligned with business growth.
• Design access network solutions, produce technical designs, specifications, BoQs and engineering documentation.
• Collaborate with Systems and OSS/BSS teams to integrate OLTs, BNG/BRAS and ACS platforms for service provisioning.
• Maintain the technology roadmap, manage hardware/software lifecycles, upgrades and migrations.
• Plan OLT uplink capacity and coordinate readiness with IP, Transmission and Operations teams.
• Provide technical support during deployment, commissioning, migration and acceptance testing.
• Monitor network performance, capacity utilisation and service quality, and drive improvement initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve performance, capacity and interoperability issues, performing root‑cause analysis.
• Lead proof‑of‑concept trials and technology evaluations to support network evolution.
• Conduct field visits to validate network performance and ensure infrastructure quality.
• Participate in a 24/7 on‑call roster, lead major incident response and produce engineering reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical & Electronic, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
• Fiber Optic Network Design certification.
• CCNA or CCNP certification.
• 3–5 years of hands‑on experience designing and deploying xPON/FTTx access networks.
• Project Management certification is an advantage.
