Accounts Payable Accountant

About the role

The Accounts Payable Accountant will manage the end‑to‑end payable process for a high‑volume environment, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee invoice processing, coding, and supplier enquiries while ensuring VAT‑able invoices include Electronic Tax Register receipts.
• Review and reconcile purchase orders, goods received notes and supplier invoices, resolving discrepancies and maintaining audit documentation.
• Process supplier payments on schedule, monitor statements, reconcile balances and address aged creditor issues.
• Handle tax compliance by posting Withholding Tax and VAT, preparing and submitting related returns.
• Prepare monthly journals, perform balance‑sheet reconciliations and support financial reporting.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register, ensure correct depreciation and disposals, and comply with reporting standards.
• Support internal and external audits with reconciliations and required documentation.
• Supervise accounts payable assistants, mentor staff and recommend process automation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
• CPA Part III; progression towards ICPAK membership is an advantage.
• 3–5 years of progressive experience in high‑volume accounts payable, preferably in profit and non‑profit/NGO sectors.
• Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, compliance and donor reporting.
• High integrity, strong financial and risk‑management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
