Acid Regeneration Plant Operator

About the role

Safal Group is looking for an operator to run and monitor its Acid Regeneration Plant (ARP) in Westlands, Kenya. The operator follows approved operating procedures to support acid regeneration, iron oxide recovery, product quality, environmental compliance and safe plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the ARP and its equipment according to approved procedures, including start-up, normal operation and shutdown.
• Monitor process parameters, equipment conditions and plant performance, and report abnormalities needing technical attention.
• Track the movement of spent acid, regenerated acid and iron oxide through the process stages and keep accurate production, process and shift handover records.
• Check regenerated acid and iron oxide against quality requirements, carry out routine sampling, identify quality deviations and maintain quality and traceability records.
• Inspect equipment, perform autonomous maintenance, support planned maintenance, shutdowns and breakdowns, and keep the workplace organised under 6S.
• Follow HSEQ, LOTOTO, Permit-to-Work and chemical-handling procedures, use PPE and report spills, leaks, hazards and incidents.
• Maintain operating logs, communicate plant status during shift handovers and collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Laboratory and Pickling Line teams.
• Take part in TPM, Kaizen and other continuous improvement activities.

Required profile

• KCSE certificate.
• Government Trade Test Grade III in Mechanical/General Fitting, Craft Certificate or equivalent technical qualification.
• At least 3 years operating process or production equipment in a manufacturing, chemical-processing or heavy industrial setting.
• At least 1 year in an acid regeneration plant, pickling line, chemical-processing plant, furnace operation or similar.
• Added advantage: engineering or chemical process certificate, chemical handling training, fire safety and first aid training, and awareness of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of acid regeneration and chemical-process operations.
• Ability to read process instruments, alarms and parameters; basic equipment inspection and autonomous maintenance.
• Basic Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
