Actuarial Associate

About the role

Turaco is seeking an Actuarial Associate to join its Nairobi Service Center, reporting to the Head of Insurance Operations and working closely with the COO. The role focuses on risk analysis, reserving, pricing projections, and compliance, turning policy and claims data into actionable insights and automating manual actuarial processes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review micro‑underwriting policies, design underwriting journeys, and collaborate with tech to build underwriting infrastructure.
• Own product pricing, build baseline models, run experience studies, and create analytical dashboards for management.
• Identify underwriting risk areas, ensure regulator compliance, and implement corrective actions.
• Introduce and automate regulator reporting templates, build data pipelines and scripts (Python, R, SQL) to reduce manual effort.
• Lead process automation across policy administration, claims handling, underwriting and actuarial work.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Actuarial Science, Insurance or related field; professional actuarial papers are a plus.
• At least 2 years of professional actuarial or analytics experience, preferably in insurance.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high sense of empathy toward insurance interactions.
• Ability to work autonomously, take initiative and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Python, R or SQL for data analysis and automation.
• Data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Looker.
• Experience building and automating data pipelines, models or reports.
