About the role
The Advocacy Lead will shape and drive the ALIGN Consortium’s global influence agenda, turning evidence and country experience into compelling advocacy products and thought leadership. This high‑visibility position sits at the intersection of policy, communications and diplomacy, working closely with partners across Africa and the ALIGN Secretariat at Duke University.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and refine a consortium‑wide advocacy strategy aligned with ALIGN’s goals and learning agenda.
- Coordinate across partners to ensure consistent messaging and strategic external engagement.
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, donors and key influencers in Senegal, Kenya and South Africa.
- Oversee production of policy briefs, issue papers, position statements, donor briefings, blogs and opinion pieces.
- Translate technical evidence into clear, actionable messages that influence policy and funding decisions.
- Lead roundtables, workshops, webinars and high‑level policy dialogues, preparing consortium leaders for speaking engagements and donor meetings.
- Track policy and financing landscapes to identify emerging influence opportunities and position ALIGN as a global thought leader.
Required profile
- Kenyan national or citizen with a Master’s degree in public policy, public health, political science, international development, communications, health economics or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in advocacy, policy engagement, government affairs, public sector reform or health policy.
- Proven track record influencing policy, regulatory, financing or health‑system decisions in low‑ and middle‑income countries.
- Experience working with governments and global multilaterals such as the Global Fund, Unitaid or UNICEF.
- Strong grasp of health product development, health systems and health financing.
- Excellent relationship‑management, facilitation and communication skills.
