Agronomist Intern – Nandi Project

About the role

Save the Children is looking for an Agronomist Intern to support the Nandi Carbon‑Climate Resilience, Livelihoods & Nutrition Project. The role provides day‑to‑day technical and field assistance to the Agronomic Advisor, focusing on agroforestry, climate‑smart agriculture, tree planting and farmer engagement across dispersed project sites.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in implementing agroforestry and climate‑smart agriculture activities, including tree planting, nursery management and soil‑water conservation.
• Conduct regular field visits to monitor tree survival, seedling care, and farmer plots.
• Support seasonal tasks such as seedling propagation, transplanting and post‑planting care under supervision.
• Facilitate farmer trainings, demonstrations and community meetings, providing basic agronomic guidance.
• Collect and record data on tree survival rates, nursery outputs and adoption of climate‑smart practices.
• Help with farmer registration, land verification and mapping processes.
• Coordinate with community‑based organisations, cooperatives and local extension officers while ensuring compliance with safeguarding and gender‑equality policies.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or final‑year student in Agronomy, Agriculture, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Willingness to travel frequently to rural field sites and work under the guidance of the Agronomic Advisor.
• Strong interest in climate‑smart agriculture, agroforestry and community‑based development.
• Ability to communicate effectively with farmers, cooperatives and project staff.
