Air Pollution Technician Consultant for Population Health

About the role

The consultant will support the LOSHAK project by conducting field-based air pollution monitoring and data collection across Kirinyaga County. The role involves operating specialized monitoring equipment, ensuring data quality, and adhering to ethical and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Calibrate, mount, unmount, clean, and maintain UPAS V2+, PurpleAir, and LASCAR monitoring devices according to study protocols and SOPs.
• Conduct pre‑deployment checks, report equipment issues, and ensure secure handling and custody of all project equipment.
• Perform field activities in line with approved protocols, including respondent revisits for validation and quality assurance.
• Prepare daily field activity summaries and progress reports for the Field Supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of participant information in compliance with the Kenyan Data Protection Act, 2019.

Required profile

• Minimum diploma in environmental health or related sciences.
• At least 2 years of experience in surveys and field work involving air‑pollution monitoring.
• Fluency in English, Kiswahili and local dialects of the study area.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with cultural adaptability.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of UPAS V2+, PurpleAir, and LASCAR air‑quality monitoring devices.
• Proficiency in ICT tools, computer/tablet usage and related applications.
