Air Pollution Technician Consultant – Population Health

About the role

The consultant will support the LOSHAK project by conducting air‑pollution monitoring in Kisumu County. The role involves field deployment of monitoring devices, data collection, and ensuring compliance with ethical and technical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Attend mandatory training and obtain required certification before field deployment.
• Calibrate, mount, unmount, clean and maintain UPAS V2+, PurpleAir and LASCAR monitoring devices according to SOPs.
• Conduct pre‑deployment functionality checks and report any equipment issues.
• Implement field activities strictly following approved study protocols and operational manuals.
• Perform respondent revisits for validation, quality assurance and back‑check activities.
• Prepare and submit daily field activity summaries and progress reports to the Field Supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of participant information in line with the Kenyan Data Protection Act, 2019.
• Support quality‑assurance and data‑integrity activities to ensure reliable field data collection.

Required profile

• Minimum diploma in environmental health or related sciences.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Fluency in English, Kiswahili and local dialects spoken in the study area.
• Previous experience in surveys and field work involving air‑pollution monitoring.
• Proficiency in ICT and computer/tablet usage and associated applications.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, culturally adaptable and sensitive.
