Air Pollution Technician – Population Health Consultant

About the role

The consultant will support the LOSHAK project by conducting air‑pollution monitoring in Kitui County. The role involves field deployment of monitoring devices, data collection, and ensuring compliance with study protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Attend mandatory training and obtain required certification before field deployment.
• Calibrate, mount, unmount, clean and maintain UPAS V2+, PurpleAir and LASCAR monitoring devices according to SOPs.
• Conduct pre‑deployment checks, report malfunctions, and ensure data quality.
• Perform respondent revisits for validation, quality assurance and back‑check activities.
• Prepare daily field activity summaries and progress reports for the Field Supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of participant information in line with Kenyan Data Protection Act, 2019.

Required profile

• Diploma in environmental health or related sciences.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in surveys and field work involving air‑pollution monitoring.
• Fluency in English, Kiswahili and local dialects of the study area.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; culturally adaptable.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of UPAS V2+ monitoring devices.
• Operation and maintenance of PurpleAir monitoring devices.
• Operation and maintenance of LASCAR monitoring devices.
• Proficiency with ICT tools, computers and tablets for data collection.
