Airlift Joint Inspector & Air Cargo Lead

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Airlift Joint Inspector & Air Cargo Lead to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures that all cargo deployed, redeployed, or used in exercises complies with DoD regulations and safety standards, while maintaining efficient aircraft loading operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform joint inspections of aircraft loads in accordance with DoD 4500.9R, Part III, Mobility, Appendix O.
• Verify cargo is movement‑ready, confirming proper packaging, bracing, and restraint.
• Ensure load weight distribution meets safety and efficiency requirements.
• Complete inspections within six hours to meet mission‑critical timelines.
• Maintain detailed inspection records and regulatory reports.
• Prepare load plans with loadmasters, aircrews, and deployment representatives.
• Assist with loading and unloading using material handling equipment and ground support tools.
• Coordinate with deploying units and aircrews to resolve discrepancies.
• Supervise and train air cargo team members on inspection and handling procedures.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years experience in cargo operations, logistics, or inspections within military, government, or industrial settings.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Formal training and qualification as a Joint Inspector.
• Comprehensive knowledge of DoD cargo inspection regulations (DoD 4500.9R, Part III, Mobility, Appendix O).
• Experience with cargo preparation techniques, including packaging, bracing, and load balancing.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment and various ground support tools.
• Strong understanding of aircraft cargo handling and load planning requirements.
