Assistant Fire Chief of Training

About the role

The Assistant Fire Chief of Training will lead the development, management, and delivery of comprehensive fire and emergency response training programs for a multi‑national workforce supporting a U.S. Navy mission on Diego Garcia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) training program, ensuring alignment with NFPA, DoD and Navy standards.
• Design and implement tailored classroom, hands‑on, drill and simulation training for fire personnel.
• Evaluate trainee performance, provide feedback, and adjust programs for continuous improvement.
• Maintain certification schedules, ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee procurement, maintenance and upkeep of training equipment and materials.
• Maintain detailed training records and prepare reports for audits and inspections.

Required profile

• Minimum three years leading an F&ES training section or division of comparable size.
• Certification as Assistant Chief of Operations and Fire Instructor III.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication, organizational and leadership abilities to mentor a diverse, multi‑national team.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements, obtain necessary visas and maintain facility credentials.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NFPA fire service standards.
• Familiarity with DoD training requirements.
• Understanding of Navy‑specific fire training guidelines.
