Assistant Operator – Responsible Charge (AORC)

About the role

The Assistant Operator in Responsible Charge (AORC) will support the operation and maintenance of a water‑treatment plant on Diego Garcia, ensuring the production of safe drinking water for a US Navy program. This onsite position requires strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in operating the water‑treatment plant to produce clean, safe drinking water.
• Monitor and control equipment processes, making adjustments to maintain quality standards.
• Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and record‑keeping for plant equipment.
• Collect and analyze water samples to verify compliance with state and federal standards.
• Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and testing records.
• Respond to emergencies such as power outages or equipment failures.
• Conduct laboratory testing for pH, chlorine levels, turbidity, and other parameters.
• Follow all safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment and safe chemical handling.

Required profile

• Current, valid Level II Treatment and Level II Distribution operator certifications.
• Ability to maintain certifications through required professional development.
• English reading, speaking, and comprehension sufficient for contract duties and emergency procedures.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas.
• Pass contract medical requirements and remain compliant throughout deployment.
• Preferred: experience in austere OCONUS environments and a valid driver’s license.
