Associate Principal Engineer

About the role

PrismHR is seeking an Associate Principal Engineer to take deep technical ownership of critical payroll and benefits platform components. This senior individual contributor role combines architectural leadership with hands‑on coding, ensuring reliable, error‑free payroll processing.

Key responsibilities

• Design and drive technical direction for major subsystems, owning end‑to‑end implementation, testing, and production behavior.
• Make architectural decisions, build complex features, and resolve hard‑to‑diagnose issues.
• Set engineering standards, lead rigorous code reviews, and mentor senior and mid‑level engineers.
• Collaborate with architecture and product teams to influence modernization of the payroll core and migration to the modern stack.
• Ensure subsystem reliability in production, handling data‑intensive migrations without missed pay runs.

Required profile

• 8–12 years of hands‑on software engineering experience, including recent senior or staff‑level responsibilities.
• Deep expertise in either JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js, Express, Angular) or .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API).
• Proven experience designing REST APIs or microservices and strong SQL/data‑modeling skills.
• Demonstrated ownership of a production subsystem, including design decisions and their outcomes.
• Ability to debug across tiers under pressure and mentor other engineers.
