Associate Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements (Fixed Term Limited)

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking an Associate Programme Management Officer to join its Planning and Finance Section in Nairobi. The position is a Fixed‑Term Limited appointment at the P2 level, reporting directly to the Chief of the Section. The officer will support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes that promote sustainable urban planning, especially in refugee settlements and the humanitarian‑development nexus.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, monitor and evaluate assigned programmes and operations within the Planning and Finance Section.
• Contribute to the development, testing and dissemination of planning policies, standards, tools, methodologies and regulatory frameworks at global, regional and national levels.
• Support the “New Way of Working” initiative to improve coordination between humanitarian and development actors.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, briefs and documentation for the Strategic Plan and related UN‑Habitat mandates.
• Collaborate with Member States, partners and local governments on urban finance, territorial planning and local economic development.

Required profile

• Relevant professional experience in programme management, urban planning or urban finance, preferably within an international or UN context.
• Understanding of the humanitarian‑development nexus and experience working with refugee or conflict‑affected settlements.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• Implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development programmes.
• Knowledge of urban planning policies, standards and tools.
• Familiarity with urban finance mechanisms and local economic development concepts.
