Associate Programme Management Officer

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the agenda for sustainable development and biodiversity. The Associate Programme Management Officer will support the Nature and Food Systems Unit in Nairobi, contributing to sustainable food systems, ecosystem restoration and the implementation of the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Key responsibilities

• Support development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of programmes and projects related to sustainable food systems, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
• Contribute to the implementation of the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework by promoting integrated approaches linking food systems, biodiversity and climate action.
• Assist in policy analysis, technical assessments and the preparation of briefing notes, reports and inputs for intergovernmental processes.
• Develop and disseminate technical guidance, policy briefs, analytical reports and knowledge products to support evidence‑based decision‑making.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in environmental sciences, biodiversity, agricultural sciences or a related field, with experience in data collection, analysis and interpretation.
• Strong analytical and evaluative skills, ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and incorporate gender perspectives in all work.
